Another reason why we stumble in our walk with Christ is the resistence that keeps showing up when it is time to let go of certain things in our lives in order to allow God to fullfill His promises to us.
Many times our short sighted nature and pressure from what we see happening in the lives of our peers and relatives tempts us to fast, pray and push God in a certain direction because we want to avoid certain processes that are required. We feel pressed for time; not because we want to achieve something before we die; but because we feel left out or falling behind even through He promises to restore the wasted years.
It is natural; even Jesus was troubled by His choices; but He showed us a way out. When He was in the garden about to be delivered into the hands of persecutors; He said;
“Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done” – Luke 22:42
His fleshly desire was telling Him to avoid the process He had to go through to go into glory. He knew the requirements, and God alerted Him to the process to come. How many of us have stuck to our freshly desires; though we know the process; either through dreams or revelation; but we continue to ask God to take away the process and perform a mighty miracle? Unless we let go, we cannot let God. Unless we give up our will to Him; we cannot allow His will. He gave us a free will, so that it is in our hands to give it up to Him.
And when Jesus gave up His will; the Bible says;
“Then an angel appeared to Him from heaven, strengthening Him” – John 22:43
Therefore as we let go and submit our will; willingly; we allow God to send help; we allow the Holy Spirit to guide us as per the will of God into the direction which grace is abundant to usher us into glory.
