In summary of this series; the main reason which we all need to separate ourselves from that hinders us from submitting to the will of God is idolatry. The idols which we have set up in our hearts are the biggest cause of our stumbling in the journey of life. The idols in our hearts tend to even deceive us that we are right standing with God; or that we are praying in line with God’s will. But God does not listen to idols, nor does He allow idols to come before Him.

Ezekiel 14:3 “Son of man, these men have set up their idols in their hearts, and put before them that which causes them to stumble into iniquity. Should I let Myself be inquired of at all by them?”

These idols come in the form of the things that we desire over God; the things that make push aside God and put first before God. Whatever causes you to disobey God, or ignore the process that God has planned to prepare you for glory is an idol of the heart. Many times these idols manifest in our prayer to God; instead of seeking the face of God, we seek after these idols; even if He has planned them as a blessing; we focus on His hand and not knowing Him.

We do not seek to know God; but we set up these idols in our hearts instead and use God to run after them. We know that only God can open the doors; but instead of seeking after His Kingdom and His Righteousness; we run after the desires of our hearts and believe that is the will God.

Idols always compete against the will of God; they want to rule over our lives; and take first place before God. Our heart will tell us that we need marriage; wealth; cars; big houses; that boyfriend or girlfriend who left us urgently while God is kept waiting to hear the words “Not my Will but Your will over mine”. God knows what is best for us is His plans; meaning His will; but unless we repent of the idols in our hearts; we cannot submit our will for His will.
