“Your are Your Heart – Part 1”

Why do doctors or anyone check the heart to determine whether someone is dead or alive? Any other part of the body can die; even the brain can be said to be dead, but we are still referred to as being alive. Why does the body get cold once the heart stops beating? Why does one have to first believe with the heart and then confess with the mouth in order for them to be born again? Why does God speak so much about our heart?

Its funny that the brain is not mentioned once in the Bible whereas the heart is mentioned 826 times. However the thoughts and emotions may be said to be things of the mind or head; so citations of the head or mind being examined appears 456 times. This means the heart is the most important part or mechanism in the human body. It is the central point that pushes the blood around the body only to return to it for renewal. But why is this very important part of the body only function to push blood around and ensure that the flow is continuous failing which the body, the being is pronounced dead? Why is it important to keep this flow of blood throughout our bodies continuous?

The Bible says “For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you upon the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood that makes atonement for the soul.’ – Leviticus 17:11

What we call “life” is in the blood. Without the blood, there is no life in the body; which why we are pronounced dead when it stops flowing. When the blood is contaminated; we become sick because whatever contaminates the blood; contaminates the rest of the body. Therefore a cleansining of the blood makes atonement for the whole body; just as the scripture says it is the blood that makes atonement for our souls. So God placed the heart as the central point that recieves the blood and send out the blood to the rest of the body. He made the heart the central point which recieves Christ and sends His influence throughout our life.

This is why He said “Guard your heart with all diligence, For out of it spring the issues of life” – Proverbs 4:23

Even the doctor teaches us to keep a health heart; because out of it springs the health and the disease. God says “guard your heart because out of it come the blessings and the curses; the love and the hatred; the Holiness and the Wickedness.
